Bangkok Floating Market Tours

For most first-time visitors, the best Bangkok floating market tour is a morning trip to Damnoen Saduak combined with the Maeklong Railway Market, and the one we would book is Bigcountry’s Damnoen Saduak Market and Maeklong Railway Market. Which floating market do you want?

Not every floating market has boats. Damnoen Saduak is the one in the postcards: vendors sell fruit, noodles and souvenirs from wooden boats on a narrow canal, and you see it from a paddle boat or a long-tail motorboat. It is a morning market, busiest around 7 to 9 a.m., and it is touristy, with souvenir stalls and tourist prices.

Khlong Lat Mayom and Taling Chan, inside Bangkok’s Taling Chan district, are local weekend food markets. Most stalls are on land, with a smaller floating section, and they open on weekends and public holidays only. Distance matters too. Damnoen Saduak is about 80–100 km southwest of Bangkok, usually 1.5–2 hours by road, and Amphawa is a similar drive. The Maeklong Railway Market, where vendors pull back their awnings as the train creeps through, sits about 20–30 minutes’ drive from Damnoen, so most tours pair the two. Tour or do it yourself?

A shared tour is usually the simplest way to see Damnoen Saduak and Maeklong in one morning. The bus or minivan from Bangkok’s Southern Bus Terminal stops about 1 km from the market, the Maeklong train runs only four times a day each way, and boat prices at Damnoen are set by each pier and often negotiated.
